New Life Center was created for individual's seeking a low cost drug rehab for themselves or a loved one with a chronic drug or alcohol addiction problem. It is beneficial to be educated on the subject of drug addiction and treatment options in order to make an educated decision on which drug rehab program is right for you or your loved one. That is why we have put together the following information regarding these subjects. We hope you find the information below helpful in your decision making process.

In order to understand the type of treatment program that is appropriate for individuals with a chronic drug addiction problem it is important to understand the mechanisms that are at work. Drug addiction can be defined as the compulsive use of drugs to the point where the user feels that they have lost control. Drug addiction can happen to anyone no matter their age, sex, race, socio or economic status. It does not discriminate. An important point to keep in mind is that drugs work on the individual as painkillers. When a person takes a drug they ingest chemicals that emotionally or physically kill their pain and alter their perception of reality. Drugs make people feel "numb".

As the drug addict spirals downward into their drug addiction their body goes through changes. Their body becomes accustomed to the drugs in their system and expects the substances to be there. When the drugs are not present, their body experiences withdrawal. Often, addicts will do almost anything to avoid the pain of drug withdrawal. They experience drug cravings physically and mentally. Drug Tolerance is another factor: As time passes, the individual's drug use increases in volume and frequency which leads to the use of more and more of the drug to achieve the high they desire.

Drug addiction often involves habitual routines that the addict has become accustomed to in their daily life. These routines include the locations they use drugs, the people they hang out with, etc. In other words, drug addiction is not just drug use; it also revolves around people and things in their immediate environment which trigger their addictive behavior. The individual's proximity & routines therein are what help to hold their addiction in place. Because the drug addicted individual is constantly surrounded by these drug associated activities they are unable to see the extent of their drug addiction problem and that they need to get help.

The cycle of drug addiction typically follows a pattern. When an individual begins to abuse drugs there is almost always an underlying sense of hopelessness, unhappiness, or physical pain that they are trying to escape. The individual finds these problems very hard to deal with. They are unable to conceive a healthy or constructive way to handle their problems. These problems could be something as far back as not fitting in when they were a teenager, a divorce as an adult, or even a physical injury or chronic pain. The problem may consume the individual and seem un-endurable. They are unable to find a workable solution.

These above mentioned factors must be taken into consideration when choosing the appropriate drug rehab. For most, the intial step of agreeing to enter treatment is the most the most difficult one. There are numerous reasons why this is the case. Mainly, it is because people are creatures of habit. Even when the changes in their life are healthy and positive they may still desire their old ways. This is a normal reaction; through reactive impulse they are compelled to do what they are familiar with whether good or bad. It is not that they truly desire to continue their self-destructive behavior; It is just all they have known for some time.

When it comes to breaking a self-destructive habit such as drug addiction the first solution on the list should be a change of environment. Due to the factors mentioned regarding Triggers, Habits and Reactive Compulsive Behavior connected with drug and alcohol addiction attending a drug rehab close to home is seldom the correct treatment option for chronic drug or alcohol abusers. It is extremely beneficial to be treated in a new location far from the enviornment in which the addictive behavior occurred. This drastically reduces the chances of restimulation of the addictive behavior and increases dramatically the chances of a successful outcome.

For those who have dealt with chronic drug addiction for an extended period of time, choosing to attend a long term drug rehab program is the correct choice to ensure the best chance for a successful long term recovery.
